Jill Blake
Professional Bodyworker &
Health Educator
Jill has a degree in Health Education and Human Biology from Central Michigan University (Mt. Pleasant Michigan). Her professional philosophy is to:
- honor the shared learning experience of teacher/practitioner and student/client, and
- empower her students/clients with the knowledge and self awareness to be their own wellness advocate.
These ideals have been at the core of all professional roles she has played; teacher, administrator, counselor, community organizer, facilitator and practitioner.
In 1994, while serving as a high school substance abuse counselor/wellness educator in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Jill began an apprenticeship with an Elder Bodywork Practitioner. Over the following six years she received training in many areas of bodywork, including Massage, Polarity Therapy, Accupressure, Hakomi, Attunement and Reiki. In addition, Jill took formal coursework in massage.
After moving to Oberlin in 1998, Jill and her Teacher began the process of integrating her learning into an defined Integrative Bodywork practice. Her scope of practice includes relaxation massage, energy modalities and body-centered process work. Sessions may include one, or a combination, of these modalities depending on what the client is requesting. No matter the type of experience, Jill continues the traditions of her teacher; to teach, to empower, and to honor the circle of teaching and learning (interdependance).
In addition to her private practice, Jill continues to teach and work in other areas of growing human potential. She has directed programs for both Oberlin College's Office of Career Services and the Bonner Center for Service and Learning. She also provides design support to OC's Center for Leadership in Health Promotion's Wellness Programs, Lake Ridge Academy's Entrepreneurial Studies Program and Leadership Lorain County's Youth Leadership Programs.
She lives in Oberlin, Ohio with her husband, two children, dog (Bella) and their "hammies" 007 and Royal Oyster.
